Today in Israel — Yom Kippur

by Steve Ray on September 26, 2004

We have been having a marvelous time of discovery in Israel — preparing for the David/Solomon project to film next Spring. Tomorrow we visit Hazor and Megiddo and the next day Solomon’s Pools and Garden near Bethlehem and then to Hebron. Driving into the heart of the West Bank we have also discovered Shiloh where the Ark of the Covenant rested in a Temple for over 200 years before King David brought it to Jerusalem.

Much more but I will have to wait until I get a real internest connection back home. Today is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement and I prayed for many things at the Western Wall. God bless you all and I tell more as I am able. Keep us in your prayers.

Bomb here in Jerusalem

by Steve Ray on September 22, 2004

By now you will have heard of a suicide bomber in Jerusalem today (Wednesday). We were scouting sites for David/Solomon in the West Bank and had just driven throuth French Hill in East Jerusalem and stopped for lunch. Sitting at the table we heard a BOOM followed by hundreds of sirens. We thank God we had left the intersection.

Other than that things are going well and we are getting a lot of research done. Today we visited Shiloh, Bethel and other important biblical sites in the West Bank. Tomorrow local sites in Jerusalem. On Friday we visit the Wilderness of Ziph, the Cave of Addulam. Monday we try to get into Bethlehem and then to Hebron. I will try to add more and keep our trip up to date on this Blog.  Bye for now. Steve Ray

There Must be a God — Look at the Jews

by Steve Ray on September 20, 2004

In one hour Janet and I leave for the airport to fly to Israel where we will spend a week in Jerusalem — my favorite city in the world (with Rome a close second). I love Israel for many reasons but one is that it proves and confirms the existence of God. You don’t find Hittites, or Jebusites, or Amorites any more. But even without a homeland for almost 2,000 years, this wandering people has existed and not only existed but thrived. It is the promise of God fulfilled even 4,000 years later.

I found the article below very interesting — statistics about the Jews. So few in number yet so powerful in world affairs: media, business, finance, entertainment, etc. A persecuted race, decimated again and again for 20 centuries, yet they rise to the top no matter where you place them. God has gifted this people — the Jews — and to me it proves not only that he exists, but that he keeps his promises.

The Jerusalem Post, 09/14/04. On the eve of the Jewish new year, there are 13 million Jews living worldwide, including 5.2 million in Israel.

According to Jewish Agency figures, 5.6 million are living in North America, 1.2 million in Europe, 413,000 in the former Soviet Union, 401,000 in South America, 84,000 in Africa, 107,000 in Australia and New Zealand, and 19,000 in Asia.

Meanwhile, Israel’s 5.2 million Jews make up 81 percent of the country’s 6.8 million people, according to a Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) census published Tuesday.

Pope John Paul II Cultural Center

September 20, 2004

On Saturday we visited the John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington DC. My wife and I took our daughter Emily and our grandson Dominic (18 months old). I had mixed emotions about the center. On the positive side I loved the Mountain of the Lord display with models of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness, [...]

Put up your hands!

September 16, 2004

I’ve heard some dumb things lately but this one takes the cake. With all due respect to Catholic Cardinals some some can say pretty dumb things. Unless this was reported incorrectly (and I find it hard to believe this cardinal would really say something like this), or I completely misunderstand his meaning, this is one case [...]

I Was Challenged! Not to a Dual but to a Debate

September 16, 2004

I was challenged to a debate in a very unprofessional manner with the short subject line message in an e-mail that said: “Subject: are you going to be in the Southeast anytime soon? – perhaps we can have a debate.“ Responding to his e-mail I wrote: “Debate? What would we debate — who to elect [...]

Is America Great?

September 14, 2004

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity about our government and its policies, we should remember England’s Prime Minister Tony Blair’s words to his own people. When asked why he believes in America and its President he Blair answered:  And does he think America is on the right track? “A [...]

Thoughts on Islam

September 4, 2004

Is the Allah of bin Laden, in whose name bin Laden commits such horrific acts, the Allah of Islam? We would like to believe otherwise; but where are the voices of Islam denouncing terrorism and suicide bombings? Where are the voices of Islam condemning this cult of death and destruction? Again I come back to [...]
