Protestants more Catholic than Catholics?

by Steve Ray on October 4, 2004

According to the Evangelical Protestant flagship magazine Christianity Today, which I still get and read monthly, Protestants appear to be more Catholic than Catholics.

It says 47% of white evangelical Protestants say it is improper for Catholic leaders to deny Communion to politicians who defy Church teachings on abortion and related issues (35% say it’s okay). A whoping 72% of Catholic say it is improper to refuse Communion to defiant politicians.

Geez! If these statistics are correct, we sure have our work cut out for us!

If you have strong “sexual” needs…

by Steve Ray on October 4, 2004

There is an amazing new translation (paraphrase) of the Bible entitled “Good as New”. This paraphrase was made to be “woman, gay, and sinner-friendly”. Let’s compare a few verses with traditional translations.

The Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (along with other translations, including Protestant) we read:

But because of the temptation to immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. . . . But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion (1 Cor 7:2, 9).

The new “Good as New“ version paraphrases it as:

“My advice is for everyone to have a regular partner . . . If you know you have strong needs, get yourself a partner. Better than being frustrated!“

The type of partner you get is up to you. A lustful man can take a partner of choice whether a woman, another man or even an animal I suppose.

If you buy this “Bible“ you may feel ripped off since it is missing a few chapters (books). The “translators“ decided to omit the books of 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, 2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, Jude, and Revelation. These were just too hard to twist into modern terms. But, consider yourself lucky because you do get an additional gospel for no extra charge: the Gospel of Thomas.

No foolin’
