World Premier of Apostolic Fathers!

by Steve Ray on October 4, 2007

BrendanJr.jpgUpdate after the World Premier:

After fighting off the paparazzi and wading through the cameras and press, my chauffer (me) dropped me off in the parking lot. Blinded by the camera flashes I stepped the podium to thank everyone. We can't take ourselves too seriously, eh? Need to have a little fun and levity once in a while.

But to be serious, we had a great time with a full house (er, I mean church). Saw lots of old friends, pilgrims from past pilgrimages and a lot of enthusiastic Catholics. My talk on the early Christians and the beginning of Christianity and the persecutions and martyrdom was very well received as was the showing of Apostolic Fathers. A great time was had by all.

Earlier Announcement:

Friday night I will be giving an introductory talk on the Apostolic Fathers before showing our new DVD for the first time!! The title is Apostolic Fathers, Handing on the Faith.

Anyone who buys a copy at this event will also receive a free copy of my audio CD From Baptist to Catholic: the Unintended Journey.

The showing will be at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Troy Michigan. If you are in the area, we hope to see you!

As soon as we are finished with this fun event, we celebrate my youngest daughter's 16th birthday and board a plane for Rome on Sunday to lead a great group of folks in the Footprints of Peter, Paul & the Apostolic Fathers. We will be posting daily video uploads from Rome for a Virtual Pilgrimage.

Steve,

I caught wind of this from reading Dr. James White’s blog entry, where he spent a podcast trying to derail this as well as an interview you gave.

I’m not Roman Catholic, but I have more freedom to enjoy the riches the RC church has to offer than Dr. White would urge. I thought on his podcast he overstated the “perspicuity” of the doctrine of the Trinity in Scripture alone and minimized the creedal and theological development that the doctrine went through.

Blessings,
Joe

Steve,

I forgot to mention that he overstated his case IN CONTRAST to the “development” view which you communicated well in the interview.

Blessings,
Joe

I was there so here are my comments :)

The World Premier of Steve’s new DVD went very well. The Legionaires kept the paparazzi respectfully back, and at Joan Rivers had the decency to wear a mantilla ( a champagne colored silk one designed by Oscar de la Renta, …or maybe it was Oscar de la Hoya, I can’t quite remember)

It was a veritable ‘Who’s Who’ of Catholicism. I caught a glimpse of Cardinal Arinze and Stephen Colbert laughing it up by the lobby bar.

And Steve had reserved seats for my wife and I just one pew back from Mel Gibson (thanks Steve ). I guess Brittany Spears was there too, but she spent most of the time in the parish confessional so we didn’t see her much. There was also some guy named J. White on the guest list, but he never showed. ;)

In all seriousness, Mr. Ray gave an excellent talk and the DVD was simply incredible!!! I recommend it to anyone who is interesting in learning more about the Early Church.

If we purchase the DVD on the Apostolic Fathers and use it as an addendum to our Bible Study, will we need to purchase several books on the early Fathers, or will it be self explanatory? Conversely, if one person has most of the copies of the works of the Early Fathers, will it be acceptable to use these and add comments or explanations?
