Quotations on Mary, Ark of the New Covenant

by Steve Ray on October 9, 2008

Since we will be celebrating Mass tomorrow in Ephesus, at Mary’s House, I thought this would be appropriate. A while ago I compiled over 7 pages of quotations from the Fathers of the Church about

Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant

Here is a sample from the great St. Athanasius (c. 296-373) who defended the Trinity and Divinity of Christ:

“O noble Virgin, truly you are greater than any other greatness. For who is your equal in greatness, O dwelling place of God the Word? To whom among all creatures shall I compare you, O Virgin? You are greater than them all O (Ark of the) Covenant, clothed with purity instead of gold! You are the Ark in which is found the golden vessel containing the true manna, that is, the flesh in which Divinity resides.” Homily of the Papyrus of Turin.

Are you saying we should believe man over Gods word. Does not the bible tell us that ALL have fallen short of the Glory of God? Sin comes through man Romans tells. Mary egg is the Flesh that God wrapped himself around to become the sinless flesh/sinless blood as it was the life of God/His Blood
This is why women body can have their period every mouth as the egg has no life in it until the seed from man comes in contact with it. Otherwise if the egg had life it would be comparable to monthly abortion. God is Life
Mary was blessed to be chosen but she too needed a Savior JesusChrist my Lord
Thank you
Love you

STEVE RAY HERE: It would do one well to read Paul’s words in their context — both scripturally, historically and within the Psalms from which he quoted and from Romans and Galatians where he uses the quote. We read that “all have sinned” but read the passage from which Paul quoted this in Psalm 14. Notice who the “all” is in this passage. Paul would not have quoted the OT out of context. And is all sinned, are there no exceptions? What about Jesus who was also a man. And what about an infant who dies before the Protestants “age of accountability”? Have they also sinned? There are exceptions and we need to find out who they are. We all know that Mary, as a daughter of Eve, also needed a savior. BUT she was saved from sin at conception! You might to study the Catholic teaching on this so you understand what it is you oppose.

Anyway, we are not Catholics with our historical beliefs because we have never analyzed the Protestant arguments. I am Catholic after being a Protestant and better at arguing against the Catholic Church than most.

Since today is Christmas, I greet you Dave as a fellow Christian and wish you a very Merry CHRISTmas.
