Steve,
I really enjoy your blog. I do have to note that I am a bit bewildered by the debate in the US about universal health care. The Canadian system is imperfect to say the very least, but I have not experienced the doom scenarios that many people argue will occur. I also do not believe that unfettered market forces will deliver the best outcome (including excellent health care to the least of our brethren in society). The recent melt down of the economy and the incredible suffering that has occurred should have had some effect on this outlook. Whatever the mechanism, health care needs to be available to everyone.
STEVE RAY HERE: THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND SINCERITY. ONE THING THAT MANY FOLKS DO IS CONFUSE “HEALTH CARE” WITH “HEALTH INSURANCE.” IN THE USA EVERYONE HAS HEALTH CARE SINCE NO HOSPITAL CAN TURN AWAY SOMEONE SICK OR INJURED. ONLY 10% DON’T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE (NOT COUNTING ILLEGALS AND THOSE WHO DON’T WANT IT. 85% ARE HAPPY WITH THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE. WHAT AIN’T BROKE SHOULDN’T BE DESTROYED TO START OVER AGAIN. WE NEED TO FIX A FEW THINGS BUT NOT OBAMACARE.
Steve –
I love how this woman gives the hoity toity congresswoman a REAL EARFUL!!! We are getting more than tired of the arrogant elitism of the Washington bureaucracy and the drones who work their. They have about as much care for the common man as I have for a nasty old housefly. All they do is stick their fingers up in the air, find out which way the wind is blowing, and then vote accordingly. They need to hear an earful from bunches of us.
Thanks Steve. I get it. The important thing is not turning anyone away who needs care. The “if it ain’t broke” argument is one I support in any circumstance.
