Traditional Anglicans welcome Vatican announcement with joy

Archbishop John Hepworth, primate of the Traditional Anglican Communion, has issued a statement welcoming Pope Benedict’s decision to permit Anglican communities to join the Catholic Church as communities.

First thoughts on an Anglican ordinariate by Canon Lawyer Ed Peters:

An interesting announcement today from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith alerts us to an upcoming apostolic constitution establishing a “personal ordinariate for Anglicans entering the Catholic Church”.  My first thoughts thereon are linked above.

Question, Steve.

This could get a little dicey as the Anglicans are invited into full communion. Anglican orders are not considered valid because of the rupture of apostolic succession in England.

Will the priests have to be “re-ordained” (or whatever you do to welcome them into valid orders).

Hope that humility leads the way here.

Oh, that the prayer of Jesus will not be far from our hearts at this time… that we may be one (Jn 17:20-26).
