Fish, Mark Shea, Running and Talks near Seattle

by Steve Ray on August 30, 2011

One of the things I love about traveling around giving talks at parishes and conferences is meeting old friends. Mark Shea, fellow convert, blogger, speaker and all around fun guy, was free for lunch while I’m here giving talks at Holy Family Parish in Kirkland Washington outside Seattle.

Mark and I went to a great seafood restaurant on the water’s edge on Puget Sound. We were able to catch up on news of our families and ministries and what we’re writing. We also recalled fun memories of working together on the scripts for my Footprints of God DVDs. We then walked and talked along the shore with the sea breeze and the sound of ship horns and seagulls. Nice time for sure. Sad to say good-bye. Keep up the good work Mark!

Now on the give my final talk at Holy Family parish with Fr. Nagel and the delightful Bob and Pam Gunderson who have befriended me and organized this well-attended and very enthusiastic parish mission.

My talk tonight is about fish! The title is ” Swimming Upstream: Living the Christian Life in a Neo-pagan World”. I begin by discussing the life of salmon.

Concerning Recent Troubles in S. Israel

August 20, 2011

Regarding the recent attacks in southern Israel: These attacks are distant from any sites we visit on pilgrimage. Not to be dismissive, but the attacks came in an area near Eilat which is well over 300 miles south of Jerusalem at the Egyptian border. First, this is no where near Galilee or Jerusalem. It is [...]

Voris and RealCatholicTV – Chinks in their Own Armor

August 18, 2011

Not that I don’t like RealCatholicTV, I usually do like the content even if I often dislike the holier-than-thou tone. But it’s always interesting when one spends a good bit of his time finding chinks in others’ armor yet apparently hasn’t taken care to keep an eye on his own home base that well. Maybe [...]

Why the Riots in London?

August 15, 2011

Since Janet and I were in England during the riots, the whole situation was a bit more poignant for us than if we had been far removed. British headlines and editorials immediately attempted explanations and suggested band-aids to fix the problem. I said to Janet and our friends again and again that the flurry of [...]

What Council of Church “leaders” Collected the NT Books?

August 15, 2011

I was just going through the Rose Book of Bible Charts, Maps & Time Lines. I find the book very helpful in many respects but was struck by the deceptive “factual” statement about the list of books in the New Testament. On page 17, under the heading “How We Got the Bible: Ten Key Points,” [...]
