Voris and RealCatholicTV – Chinks in their Own Armor

by Steve Ray on August 18, 2011

Not that I don’t like RealCatholicTV, I usually do like the content even if I often dislike the holier-than-thou tone. But it’s always interesting when one spends a good bit of his time finding chinks in others’ armor yet apparently hasn’t taken care to keep an eye on his own home base that well. Maybe he’s just been busy.

Steve,

More research is in order. First, back in June or July WYD organizers singled out Real Catholic TV as having no official standing at (not being approved for) WYD. Michael Voris responded with a video explaining that RCTV didn’t apply for any such status. So why was RCTV singled out and none of the gay rights, liberal nit wit groups of heterodoxy attending NOT singled out? Of course Michael then ignored the not approved issue as closed – no big deal.

Now second, while Michael is in Madrid doing his RCTV thing (as many other “not approved” groups in Madrid are doing), CNA suddenly comes up with a scandal plastered on its front web page for WYD – an RCTV employee wrote homosexual stories for a secular web site, and the RCTV paper work for tax exempt status was 2 years overdue.

I think Michael pi$$ed off a few liberal Democrat clerics who maipulated WYD to issue the June statement – “you’re not approved.” Of course these same clerics would never bother to ensure that the “Catholic” gay rights groups at Madrid received a similar statement. Then when Michael went to Madrid anyways, they got really mad and manipulated CNA into this news story to discredit anything Michael is trying to do.

Of course, maybe there’s a fantasy world where Bishop Hubbard of Albany, NY did confront Andy Cuomo over his adulterous concubinage and his support of gay marriage, and Bishop O’Malley of Boston did crack down on gay rights Masses. The scientists tell us there are an infinity of multiverses, after all. Sorry – way too sarcastic this afternoon.

I will wager that sooner or later we’ll be able to trace this right straight to politics and money.

BTW, Simon Rafe publicly apologized for his indiscretion in writing those stories and it’s likely the State of Michigan simply never caught up with its own paper work, thus RCTV loses tax exempt status. I cover all this here:

By the way, since you are in the Catholic Apologetics business, maybe there is a money angle to this after all because both Fr. Corapi and Michael Voris are or were competitors (however non-profit). I am not saying you did anything wrong. But I am skeptical of naturally criticism from a competitor, that’s all.

It’s not hard to forget about paying that $25 fee to the state, and submitting that annual form that simply announces “We’re still here!” Was it his responsibility, or that of one of his staffers? Of course. Is it sneaky or nefarious? No, it was careless.

Also, why would Simon Rafe volunteer information about his “unCatholic” online activities to Michael Voris? One could see why he might not have mentioned it to Voris, under the circumstances. Is it reasonable to suggest that Voris should have had Rafe investigated somehow?

Michael Voris is asking Catholics to actually give Catholicism a try. He’s also asking that our shepherds uphold Catholic teaching, and exhibit authentic Catholic leadership. He asks that we pray for those in authority, and not to turn a blind eye to scandal or lies that could lead the flock astray.

He’s doing something right, and that’s why he has a bullseye on his back. Not everyone is going to like his style. These people are free to not watch his videos.

Steve Ray, how about posting a link to Michael Voris’s video on the CNA article:

And the transcript, too:

Give your competitor an honest break. How would your organization fare under the same kind of spotlight that his is under?

STEVE RAY HERE: COMPETITOR? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT OR ASSUMED SUCH A THING. HE DOES WHAT HE DOES; I DO WHAT I DO AND I SEE NO CROSSING OF PATHS. WHEN ONE CRITICIZES OTHERS ON A REGULAR BASIS THEY NEED TO KEEP THEIR HOUSE IN ORDER I WOULD THINK. I ONLY REPORTED THE NEWS WITH MY COMMENT ON THE ATTITUDE OFTEN PERMEATING HIS REPORTS. BRAVO TO VORIS FOR WHAT HE DOES WELL AND MAY HE MATURE AS TIME GOES ON.

MY ORGANIZATION? I WORK OUT OF MY DINING ROOM BUT DO HIRE A COMPETENT ACCOUNTANT TO MAKE SURE PAPERWORK IS IN ORDER. I COULD NEVER DO IT ON MY OWN – FAR TOO INCOMPETENT IN SUCH MATTERS :-)
