Obama and Yom Kippur

by Steve Ray on November 19, 2011

obama-feet-on-desk“Hi. This is President Obama. Is our good Jewish Senator Joe Lieberman in?”

“No, Mr. President. It’s Yom Kippur!”

“Well, Hello, Yom. Can I leave a message?”

(I was criticized for posting this joke about President Obama. If interested, I responded to the criticism below in the Comments.)

I don’t think you should have posted this; you are making fun of the President of the United States. You may not agree with where the country is going under his leadership and it is perfectly correct to objectively criticise something based on fact but to mock the duly elected president like mocking the office. Would you mock a bishop just because he does something you don’t like – it is legitimate to objectively criticise the bishop’s actions but not to mock the bishop because in so doing you show disrespect for the office. .

STEVE RAY HERE: I understand that Australians tend to have a more mellow tone, usually are very politically correct and hesitate to criticize or point out the flaws of public officials. We Americans are more outspoken for better or for worse. I appreciate the Australians having spent time in the beautiful and polite Down Under. However, in America we have history and tradition of political satire which uses cartoons, exaggerations and jokes to point out the weaknesses and problems of public figures, especially politicians.

Obama has made many gaffs just like the one I joke about here. When George Bush was president, honorable man that he was, whether people liked his policies or not, often made blunders too. And when he did the media trumpeted them as headline news, mocking him whenever possible. I don’t remember Aussies or anyone else sticking up for him. Now we have Obama who also bumbles around and makes many speaking gaffs but the media protects him because he is still their darling — though the shine is becoming tarnished even in their eyes.

In this case I am not mocking or belittling the Office of President. I am doing the exact opposite — to demonstrate how our unqualified and inept president is not up the honor of this high office. He is doing all he can to destroy our country out of his twisted view of the world and I will do all I can to expose him for what he is. It is precisely my love and respect for the Office of President that I ridicule this man’s own lack of respect for the office and the poor choice Americans made in electing him, which I doubt they will do again next year. We cannot survive another four years with this clown as president.

Hi, Sharon. I understand your reaction to Mr. Ray’s joke, but he’s got a good point. We do have a history of political satire and barbs in the U.S. and Obama has not had his share, believe me. Most of the Soros-owned and/or heavily-influenced media here worship the ground Obama walks on. It’s sickening. We have always made fun of political figures and Obama shouldn’t be any different. He should be treated just like everybody else. And that includes not ignoring his gaffes and not pretending he is something that he isn’t. Not pretending that he is perfect and above criticism. He deserves much more criticism than he is likely to receive due to the political correctness that has infected the minds of so many here in the states.

Peace be with you, Sharon, and with you, Mr. Ray. Happy (early) Thanksgiving!
