Invocation Prayer to Beat All Others

by JesseRay on August 28, 2012

Fr. Andrew was invited to lead the opening prayer at the 2012 Colorado Republican State Assembly and Convention in the Magness Arena at the University of Denver. The moral challenges facing our country are not caused by political affiliation, but rather by attacks on religious freedom. He invites all people of conscience to uphold religious freedom.

“The Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modem times with ‘communism’ or ‘socialism’.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church 2425

We need more of this! The bishops cannot name names and that is a problem. My sad guess is that a good majority of Catholic voters think that Rebublicans are the problem!

You are right Tom. There are people in my extended family who think republicans are for the rich and the democrats are fulfilling Christ’s work of helping the poor. Sadly they are mistaken–-there is no biblical endorsement of forced generosity.

My wife say, “the rich need the poor as much as the poor need the rich.” Serving the poor is sanctifying and brings meaning and purpose to those with wealth, and receiving help directly from the hands of generous people is humbling and healthy for the impoverished. The government does both groups a grave disservice by usurping the role of legitimate charity. Systematic welfare drives a wedge between these two groups that desperately need each other for worldly and spiritual ends.
