VP Debate

by Steve Ray on October 12, 2012

I was yelling to Ryan “Turn to Biden, look him in the eye (instead of the dumb smile) and say, ‘Do you have any idea what you’re talking about?’
Just butt in. Don’t let Biden and the moderator walk all over you.”

He was coached badly. It was a draw but it could have been much better. Ryan had his great moments like the closing statement.

Biden seemed snide and condescending and Ryan polite and deferential (which could be interpreted as young and inexperienced). Biden nauseated me throughout but especially in his comments on his Catholic faith (barf).

Over all Ryan didn’t do what he needed to do but also didn’t fail. It was a draw a c relatively boring. Not impressed with the moderator either.

Janet doesn’t agree and thought Ryan was correctly deferential with his elder statesman. I think he should have used humor and assertive boldness and cut the ground out from under the sneering Biden.

Steve,

I have to agree and disagree. I thought he should have put Biden in his place, but that may have been ammunition for the mainstream media to attack him. Biden was so wrong on the issues with the Church and abortion. However, I think Ryan should have stood his ground and say ALL abortion is wrong. One life is not more important then any other. I don’t know if you have seen all the hatered being spewed via Twitter about Ryan’s story of his first born and how there was a dispicable person who wished she would be “raped” at 13. He did not use the word rape, I just can’t bring myself to use the word he actually used. He went on to try and defend his actions which was a waste of time.

I had to put in my thoughts. I love your work and follow you on twitter too!

God bless you and your family,

John

Steve,

I couldn’t agree with you more. I was practically yelling at the TV just wishing Ryan would have jumped in and pointed out the ridiculousness of Biden’s comments. Ryan could have easily pointed out the faults in Biden’s relativism (“I’m not going to impose my personal beliefs on women”) and in his claim to follow Catholic Social Teaching (Biden obviously doesn’t know that SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE is the first Catholic Social Teaching theme!).

Thanks for the commentary and for all the great work you do!
Greg

P.S. I teach 8th grade Religion at a Catholic School in Minnesota. Today we just finished watching the last chapter of your Jesus DVD! The kids (once again!) have learned a ton and enjoyed your passion and hilarity. The bloopers and scene where you pop out of the casket were certainly favorites as well! Hahaha.
