Warnings about Being Catholics in America

by Steve Ray on October 17, 2012

Brilliant a Quotes from Archbishop Chaput and Cardinal George:

“Catholics need to wake up from the illusion that the America we now live in – not the America of our nostalgia or imagination or best ideals, but the real America we live in here and now – is somehow friendly to our faith. What we’re watching emerge in this country is a new kind of paganism, an atheism with air-conditioning and digital TV. And it is neither tolerant nor morally neutral.” – Archbishop Charles Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia

“I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square.” – Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago

Scary but very true. Lord have mercy.

Gadel: Christ have mercy (little bit of call and response, there).

This stuff is everywhere! All these things being said lately on some blog, or from some Cardinal or some priest or layperson, or just these intense feelings I’ve recently had that make me want to prepare for the worst. At this point, I want to stock up on canned food and water, make sure I’m thoroughly confessed at all times should my life be lost in a moment (do to martyrdom vs. something like a car accident), and ready to see my future PhD get me little of nothing because I am openly Catholic and thus shoved into a Catholic ghetto.

And to think…I’m a convert and I’m willing (though I’d like to avoid it) to die for my new faith. I can’t just give it up for the sake of comfort. Its my treasure. It’s all I’ve got. Even if I had dozen of cars and mansions and gold mines and stocks and bonds, I’d still say that all I’ve got is the Faith.

Lord have mercy.

Peace!

Welcome to the family. First of all, not even Our Lord could tell the apostles when the Last Day would come. That’s known only to Our Father in Heaven. So don’t worry about prophecies of doom. Enjoy your life and don’t waste it for you will have to account for it one day.
As for making sure that you’re in a State of Grace at all times, that’s a great idea but not just because you’re worried about a martyr’s death. If you should be martyred, all your sins are immediately forgiven at the moment of death. You go straight to Heaven, you don’t even see Purgatory.
The same privilege is granted if you die while trying to save another person’s life, even if you don’t succeed. Whatever you do for anyone, you do for Christ.

Christ have mercy!
