We put the fun back in Lent. Patrick and I had a fun time talking about a usually a somber topic. I am convinced Catholicism and the love of God is always exciting and joyful.

You can listen to the show on-line or download as an MP3 file. For more info and listening options, click here.

Here are the questions I answered on Ash Wednesday:

1) Why do we take the Gloria out of the liturgy during Lent?
2) Do we have to have a Mass to distribute ashes?
3) A Protestant friend saw my ashes and asked why Catholics were a separate denomination and do such things?
4) If the Eucharist is the Body of Christ, his flesh, then why are we allowed to eat it on no meat fast days?
5) When I grew up in Mexico my mother brought home the ashes in an envelop. Was that OK?
6) What happens if you forget and eat meat on a fast day? – opps, I did it!
7) Should children receive ashes?
8) Is Lent just about not eating meat or is it more than that?
9) When did we start not eating meat during Lent and why is it meat?
10) How long are we supposed to leave the ashes on our forehead?
11) What is it like in the desert Jesus where Jesus spent 40 days?
12) What is the New Testament reason for Lent?

It was one of those talks that you sit up and say, “Wow, finally someone is speaking sensibly, someone who understands this country and our founding principles and morality! This guy should run for president!”

It would have been good if he was white, but it was even better that he is an incredibly articulate, humorous and courageous black man. He has an incredible story – starting out in poverty with a mother who was married at 13 years old. As a single mother she raised him with a strong hand emphasizing a love of God, education and morality. Now he is a leading neuro-surgeon. A movie was made about his life which is very worth watching.

President Obama was at the prayer breakfast when Dr. Carson gave his rousing speech. It was obvious from the get-go that Obama would rather have been anywhere else but up at the presenter’s table. He was nervous, uncomfortable and angry as Dr. Carson with great humor, honesty and commonsense took Obama and his policies to task.

Here is a video of his speech – very worth watching! Almost 2 million people have already watched this in just a few days.
